Ribble Hybrid AL review

Introduction

Hi  welcome to Ribble. With the ever-growing popularity of electric bikes we wanted to help answer some questions you might have around e-bikes and how they work.

What is an E-Bike

An e-bike is an electric bike which is designed around a battery-powered system designed to boost your natural effort and assist you to cycle further for longer. There are many different types of e-bike systems available today which vary in power, weight and drive type. For example, some are powered through the rear wheel and some are power through the bottom bracket. Here at Ribble, all our e-bikes use a pedal assist motor system which means you're in full control at all times. When you pedal, the motor in the rear hub works with your natural pedaling effort providing a smooth power boost. This allows you to stay in total control and stops assisting as soon as you stop pedaling. The assistance is smooth, natural feeling—just like a normal bike except with the added assistance that will help you ride further, longer, and make light work of those hills.

At Ribble, our range of e-bikes use exceptionally lightweight and discreet systems, giving the appearance of a traditional bike. Our system uses a motor in the rear wheel of the bike which is connected to a slimline 250 watt lithium-ion battery that’s hidden within the downtube of the frame. You simply propel the bike, turning the pedals as you would with any traditional non-electric bike.

With Ribble e-bikes the power-assist has three settings to give you up to 50 mile-per-hour of assistance, which is the current legal limit in the UK. The push of a button gives you access to three levels of smooth power assistance that you can adjust to suit the terrain or conserve battery power. You can expect an average range of up to 60 miles from a full charge, however this is dependent upon several factors including rider weight, route profile, and temperature. For those wanting to ride further or require more battery power, our range extender battery provides you with an additional tunes and watt hours of power to allow you to keep riding with assistance.

Whilst e-bikes are typically heavier than a standard bike due to the motor and battery pack, our range of e-bikes are some of the lightest in the world with a box starting from just 11 kilograms, so it is light enough to pedal with or without power. The Ribble system also has a free companion app which is compatible with both Apple and Android smartphones and offers a full suite of functionality.
